- Effective December 6, 2021, all travelers to the United States, including U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs), and nonimmigrants, regardless of vaccination status, must present airlines with a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than one (1) calendar day before their flight or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 in the past 90 days. Children from age 2 to age 17 are also subject to this testing requirement. All nonimmigrant, noncitizen air travelers to the United States are required to be fully vaccinated and to provide proof of vaccination status prior to boarding an airplane to the United States. To best determine your individual travel requirements, check out CDC’s Travel Assessment Tool. Additional information about these policies is available on CDC’s website and the Department of State’s website.
Commercial flights from Vietnam to the United States are available, although flight frequency can be limited. We have compiled below a list of commercial airlines that still operate flights between Vietnam and the United States for your reference. If you are interested in repatriating from Vietnam, please immediately book a commercial flight when it is still available. Please note that this list is by no means exhaustive; there may be other airlines that operate flights between Vietnam and the United States. Please also note that U.S. Mission Vietnam is not responsible for any decisions made by the Government of Vietnam, transit country governments, or the individual airlines to alter, change, or cancel scheduled flights.
When transiting via a third country to reach the U.S., we advise you to solely transit the country, rather than officially entering that country and exiting the terminal, overnighting, or changing airports. Those attempting to do so could be subject to quarantine in that third country or encounter significant delays. You should contact the airlines or your travel agent directly if you have questions or need assistance booking a flight.
Please be aware that upon arrival in the U.S., travelers could be subject to quarantine dependent on determinations made by officials at the Port of Entry. If you have questions about this issue, please contact the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) directly. Their contact information is available here.
In most situations, the U.S. Government will not schedule evacuation or charter flights as long as commercial flights remain available. In the event there are no longer commercial flights available, the U.S. Government may look to establish charter flights, depending on the current situation both in Vietnam and in the United States. It is important to note, in the event an evacuation flight is established, these flights are not free and American citizens are required to pay for their tickets. In many cases, the cost of a seat on an evacuation flight may be more expensive than the cost of a commercial airline ticket.
