Melissa Bishop is the Deputy Chief of Mission for the U.S. Mission in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. A member of the Senior Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State, Melissa most recently served as the Consular Chief at the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi from August 2019 to January 2022. Prior to assuming this position, Melissa served as the Director for Immigration and Visa Security on the National Security Council staff and Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of State for Management. Previous overseas assignments include consular positions in Ho Chi Minh City, Kingston, Mexico City and Seoul.
Melissa earned the degree of Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College in 2018. She is also a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross (BA), Middlebury College (MA) and Santa Clara University School of Law (JD). Prior to joining the State Department, Melissa worked as an attorney in San Diego, California. A native of Pennsylvania, Melissa is married to Geoffrey Bishop, and they have two children (Quentin and Marigrace).
