Message to U.S. Citizens

The Department of State has launched a new online system for the Consular Report of Birth Abroad (eCRBA), now available in Vietnam. This feature allows parents to complete an eCRBA application online, upload required documents, and submit payment prior to the in-person interview through a streamlined and more efficient process.  You will also be able to check the status of your application at any time. To apply for an eCRBA, you MUST answer YES to all the following criteria:

  1. Was the child born in Vietnam?
  2. Is the child under the age of 18?
  3. Was at least one parent a U.S. citizen or U.S. non-citizen national when the child was born?
  4. Are you a biological parent of a child born abroad who is applying for the Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA)?

If any of the above statements do not apply to you or if you encounter significant barriers in submitting your application electronically, you can still apply for a CRBA with a paper application (DS-2029). However, we strongly encourage U.S. parents to use the eCRBA application if you are eligible.
