In our digital times, it is easier and easier to access platforms that allow us to express ourselves personally, artistically, and professionally. We tweet, snap, Instagram, send LinkedIn messages, and post to Facebook all the time. We are free to express ourselves now more than ever, in more places and spaces than ever. But do we really communicate who we are? Writing to express ourselves, no matter how free, is difficult. My young working professional students tell me this all the time. How do we get the words to say what we want them to say? How do we find our expressive voice in our writing? And how do we do all this in a language that is not our “home” language? In this interactive presentation, we will explore opportunities for expression in contemporary digital networks. Writing techniques will be presented that can help us find our voices of expression. With these techniques, our writing can empower our message and empower ourselves.
