2024 FULBRIGHT VIETNAMESE VISITING SCHOLAR PROGRAM

The U.S. Mission in Vietnam seeks qualified candidates for the 2024 Fulbright Vietnamese Visiting Scholar Program.  The program provides grants to Vietnamese scholars to lecture and/or conduct research at American institutions or universities for five months (one-semester grant) or nine months (two- semester grant). 

ELIGIBILITY 

  • Be Vietnamese citizen (no dual citizenship)
  • Hold an MA or PhD degree
  • Be proficient in English

Applicants should be university faculty, government officials, private sector professionals, work at a think tank, or occupy similar positions.  Applicants will be expected to have a significant record of scholarly or professional accomplishments. Applicants must reside in Vietnam throughout the nomination and selection process, and they must return to Vietnam upon completion of their U.S. stay.  

Applicants are ineligible who:

  1. Are currently residing, teaching, studying, or conducting research in the U.S., or who have received a Fulbright grant within the past five years.
  2. Have been to the U.S. as a J-1 Exchange Visitor in the category of Professor or Research Scholar within the past two years.

The Visiting Scholar Program actively encourages women, minorities, and residents from all provinces to apply.  It is open to all candidates who qualify through open competition on the basis of academic and professional merit without regard to race, religion, gender or affiliation.


GRANT LENGTH
Applicant may choose a grant for a semester (5 months) or full academic year (9 months)

  • A-semester grant (5 months) must begin in September 2024 or January 2025
  • One academic year grant (9 months) must begin in September 2024

  • Project proposal (3-5 pages maximum)
  • Bibliography 
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Letters of recommendation (three are required)
  • Letter of invitation (preferred, but not required)

FIELD OF STUDY
Applicants who specialize in disciplines within the social sciences and humanities, science, and technology are welcome to apply.

Finalists’ details are submitted to the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FFSB) for final review.

FFSB selections finalized. Congratulatory letters sent. 

May – Jun 2024  

Fulbright pre-departure orientations. 

May – August 2024

Confirmation with host institution / Medical check / Visa interview

August – September 2024  

Selected Fulbright Scholar departs to the U.S.
