VISA Process for U.S. scholars to Vietnam

Host institutions shall apply for grantees’ entry visas. Until a visa is issued, entry into Vietnam is not guaranteed. As visa issuance in Vietnam is a long process, grantees are to send passport information to the host institution and PAS-Hanoi as soon as grants are confirmed. Unless it is a multi-entry visa, the visa will expire as soon as a grantee departs Vietnam. Re-entry visas into Vietnam should not be taken for granted. All visa costs are at the expense of grantees.

Visa application forms can be downloaded at http://www.vietnamembassy.us/consular_services/visa_info/.

Affiliation & visa requirements for U.S. students to Vietnam

Grantees must have an affiliation with a Vietnamese institution which will assist them with the paperwork required for a visa. Grantees must obtain a letter from their host indicating agreement that the proposed research may be conducted under their auspices and that they will sponsor the student in the visa application process. A Fulbright student grant cannot be activated until PAS-Hanoi and IIE are provided with a copy of this letter.

As soon as possible, grantees should make preliminary contact with the director of Fulbright Program in Vietnam at PAS-Hanoi.

Once the grantee has received notice from their Vietnamese host that the paperwork is underway, PAS-Hanoi may be able to conduct a follow-up at the grantee’s request. However, before PAS-Hanoi can conduct a follow-up you must provide the following:

  1. Copy of the photo ID page of passport.
  2. Copy of visa application.
