New COVID-19 Restrictions in Hanoi

Location:  Vietnam

The Hanoi People’s Committee announced that starting July 19, non-essential services will be temporarily suspended and asked that residents stay home, avoid public gatherings of over five people, and continue social distancing.  Hanoi residents and visitors should only go out to buy food and medicine, seek medical attention, or work at locations identified as essential.  Delivery services remain available.  U.S. citizens may encounter COVID-19 screening checkpoints when entering or exiting Hanoi and should be prepared to complete health declarations and follow COVID-19 prevention guidelines.

The U.S. Mission in Vietnam reminds all U.S. citizens that they are subject to Vietnamese local laws and regulations while visiting or living in Vietnam.  We advise U.S. citizens to comply with the Vietnamese government’s testing and quarantine requirements.

We recommend U.S. citizens check the Embassy’s COVID-19 page daily for information and register or update their information with the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
