Thưa Bộ trưởng Nguyễn Thị Kim Tiến, Chủ Tịch kiêm Tổng Giám đốc Điều hành Orbis International Jenny Hourihan, Thưa tất cả quý vị. Tôi thực sự vui mừng được chào đón Bệnh viện Bay Orbis tới Hà Nội ngày hôm nay. Trong bối cảnh năm nay kỷ niệm 20 năm bình thường hoá quan hệ ngoại giao giữa Hoa Kỳ và Việt Nam, chúng ta rất may mắn được đón Bệnh viện Bay đến Việt Nam.
Over the last two decades, health collaboration has brought our two countries together like no other issue. Orbis International and its local partners have stood at the forefront of this process by improving the vision of thousands of regular people in Vietnam since 1996.
I am happy to say this is not my first time seeing the Flying Eye Hospital in action. While serving in Indonesia several years ago, I toured the Flying Eye Hospital and remember being awestruck by the specially-equipped aircraft, a marvel of modern medicine and engineering. You will experience the same wonder on today’s tour.
As you all know, blindness has profound human and socioeconomic consequences. Global research suggests that half of childhood blindness can be avoided if the visual abnormalities are detected early. Investing in the prevention and early detection of childhood blindness can make a dramatic difference in the lives of our children and families.
That is why I am extremely proud to be part of this very special project today. As the father of two children, I know how important healthy vision is to a family.
Cùng nhau hợp tác, chúng ta có thể ngăn ngừa và điều trị các bệnh gây mù loà, đặc biệt là cho những thành viên nhỏ tuổi nhất trong cộng đồng chúng ta. Tôi chân thành cảm ơn tất cả quý vị đã tận tâm vì sứ mệnh này. Tôi chúc Bệnh viện Bay đạt được những kết quả cao nhất trong thời gian hai tuần tới.
