Vietnam Becomes the Sixth Largest Source of Foreign Students in the United States

Ho Chi Minh City, November 14, 2016 – Today marks the release of the annual Open Doors Report by the U.S. Department of State.  The U.S. Mission to Vietnam is proud to note that Vietnam is now the sixth leading source of foreign students studying at higher education institutions in the United States.  The number of Vietnamese students increased from 18,722 students in 2015 to 21,403 in 2016, or by 14.3%.  Vietnam also maintained its position as the top source country in Southeast Asia.

International education creates a positive economic and social impact for communities in the United States and around the world.  The strong increase in Vietnamese student enrollment shows the continued conviction by students and parents that a U.S. degree is a sound investment in their future careers.  U.S. higher education offers an unmatched range of nearly 4,000 colleges and universities of all sizes and types, with an extensive variety of course offerings, fields of study, and price points.

The U.S. Mission to Vietnam is working hard to support this growth through its EducationUSA Advising Center at Diamond Plaza.  EducationUSA provides prospective students and their parents with accurate, current, and comprehensive information about U.S. schools at no cost.
