VietPride Event Canceled
On Friday afternoon, September 13, the Vietnamese External Relations Office (ERO) in Ho Chi Minh City informed the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City that the organizers of the VietPride gathering, scheduled to take place 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, had not applied for the necessary permit
Participation in a non-permitted event is considered illegal by Vietnamese authorities and could lead to arrest. The U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City advises U.S. citizens not to attend the planned event on Nguyen Hue Street across from the People’s Committee Building, because police are likely to disperse any crowds that begin to gather and will arrest people who do not comply with their orders.
