Statement from the U.S. Embassy

HANOI, February 2, 2018 – The United States supports the right of people to freely express their opinions. We are concerned by the recent convictions of Vu Quang Thuan, Nguyen Van Dien, Tran Hoang Phuc, and Ho Van Hai under the vague charge of “propaganda against the State.”

We call on Vietnam to release these individuals and all other prisoners of conscience immediately, and to allow all individuals in Vietnam to peacefully express their political views without fear of retribution.
