U.S. Mission Vietnam’s consular offices will be closed for the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday:

Monday, January 31 – Friday, February 4, 2022

We will resume normal operations on Monday, February 7, 2022.  Please note that answers to the most common questions and inquiries can be found on our website or the Department of State’s website.  We apologize for any inconvenience and wish you a happy new year. Please note that for the Tet holiday, most Government of Vietnam offices, including city and provincial offices, will also be closed, and we will be unable to provide routine services to U.S. citizens during this time.

*** U.S. Citizen Services:

Please note that current passport processing times are two (2) to three (3) weeks.  If you apply for a passport on or after January 17, 2022, your new passport will not be available until after the Tet holiday.  You may still request an emergency passport through January 27, 2022, for immediate travel needs.  Click here for more information about emergency passport requests.

If your visa application is approved and you do not receive your passport back by Saturday, January 29, you will receive them by courier after the Tet holiday.  Before mailing your passport to the Embassy or Consulate, please ensure that you will not need it during the Tet holiday.  If your travel is urgent, you may wish to consider requesting an expedited appointment.

The NIV Unit will reopen to the public on Monday, February 7, 2022.

***Immigrant Visa Applicants:

The Immigrant Visa (IV) Unit of the Consulate General Ho Chi Minh City will be closed to the public from Monday, January 31 through Friday, February 4, 2022.  Immigrant visa applicants who have been asked to submit additional documents should not plan on doing so during this period.  The IV Unit will continue conducting visa interviews through January 28, 2022.  However, please expect a delay in the delivery of your visa due to the Tet closure.  If you have an urgent need to travel, please notify our office at the time of your interview.
