The U.S. Embassy Hanoi, the Motion Picture Association, and CGV Cinemas Vietnam hosted a movie night to help protect Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). Over 200 representatives from the Vietnamese government, art community, diplomatic corps, students, and journalists attended the event and watched Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 2014 Academy Award winning “Frozen 3D” (2013). The event brought together the art, government, civil society, and youth communities to raise awareness about the need to protect the work of all artists and promote IPR in Vietnam.
Prior to the film screening, U.S. Ambassador David Shear, Vietnam Vice Minister of Culture, Sports & Tourism Mr. Vuong Duy Bien, and Motion Picture Association Representative Ms. Susan Lee provided opening remarks.
Noting the importance of IPR, Ambassador Shear said, “Strong IP protection is critical for Vietnamese filmmakers to be successful, just as it is for Vietnamese artists, IT developers, and a range of other professionals whose creative efforts must be capitalized if Vietnam wants to reach its full potential. The U.S. Government looks forward to partnering with Vietnam to develop and improve its own system to protect the Intellectual Property of its own talented citizens.”
