The U.S. Mission to Vietnam seeks candidates for the UNVIE Space Exchanges 2022. All Vietnamese students, proficient in English, in grades 10 or 11 studying at Vietnamese high schools who demonstrate an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) are welcome to apply. Successful candidates will demonstrate their leadership capability through academic work, community involvement and extracurricular activities. Up to two scholarships are available for Vietnamese students. The application deadline is 23:59P.M., Saturday, April 30, 2022.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Sponsored by the United States Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, this opportunity is thanks to the U.S. Mission to International Organizations in Vienna, who partnered with the University of Alabama in Huntsville to launch a new twelve-day, space-themed exchange program entitled “Journey Through Space and Time: The Past, Present, and Future of Space Exploration,” in honor of the Apollo 11 mission’s 50th anniversary. Two students will travel from Vietnam to Washington, DC, and Huntsville, Alabama, to engage in space-themed educational tourism and attend the Advanced Space Academy.
Participant costs for program administration, international and domestic travel, housing, and food are covered by the U.S. Department of State.
The program component in the United States will be organized taking into consideration all necessary safety guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state, local, and campus authorities.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
This competition is open to all applicants who meet the following minimum criteria:
- Are a Vietnamese citizen;
- Are a student, 15-17 years old and in grade 10 or 11 at a Vietnamese high school;
- Have a demonstrated interest in STEM fields;
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and potential in their school and/or communities;
- Demonstrate commitment to or interest in civic action and community service;
- Academic excellence;
- Exhibit an appropriate level of maturity, open-mindedness, and sociability within a group;
- Are proficient in English;
- Are committed to completing a follow-on engagements with the U.S. Embassy;
- Have permission from parents and schools to participate in the entire program.

- A 1-2-minute video on why you want to attend space camp and what you plan to do with your knowledge and experience gained after returning to Vietnam.
