U.S. Mission Vietnam
Message for U.S. Citizens
September 8, 2021
Hanoi authorities announced a new “zone” system beginning on September 6, 2021. The city is divided into three (3) zones, and travel is restricted between zones. For residents in Zone 1 (Red Zone), Directive 16 continues to apply. Here is more information about the zones in Hanoi. In the coming weeks, conditions will vary throughout different districts and wards in Hanoi.
U.S. citizens are advised to monitor local news outlets and observe changes in local behavior as well as to consult with local authorities, employers, and landlords for guidance on current conditions in your ward or district.
The U.S. Mission in Vietnam reminds all U.S. citizens that they are subject to local laws and regulations while visiting or living in Vietnam. We advise U.S. citizens to comply with the Government of Vietnam’s testing and quarantine requirements.
For U.S. citizens with ACS appointments at the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, please be aware that per the city of Hanoi’s policy, you are required to have proof of the appointment and a certificate of a negative test for COVID-19 within the last 72 hours with you while traveling to an appointment at the Embassy in order to proceed through checkpoints. For more information, please visit this link.
U.S. citizens should refrain from gathering in large groups and monitor local news and government restrictions to avoid travel disruptions. Government of Vietnam regulations regarding business operations, quarantine, movement, and travel restrictions in all parts of Vietnam can change with little notice.
Please see the U.S. Mission in Vietnam’s COVID-19 Information Page for additional information regarding the COVID-19 situation in the country.
