Daily Health and Travel Alert – Vietnam Immigration Offices Closed until April 15

Location: Vietnam

This is a daily update from the U.S. Embassy Hanoi and U.S. Consulate General Ho Chi Minh City to assist U.S. citizens monitor information during the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Vietnam.

Daily COVID-19 Numbers:

As of April 1, Vietnam has reported 212 confirmed cases of COVID-19 within its borders since the virus first became known. To date, 60 people have recovered and have been released from the hospital.

Important Information for U.S. Citizens:

Vietnamese Immigration authorities informed the U.S. Mission that Vietnam’s immigration offices will close until April 15.  They have informed us that U.S. citizens and other foreigners with visas that expire during the closure will not be considered overstays for the period of April 1-15.  Some immigration offices may keep limited staffing during this time to process emergency cases.  The U.S. Mission will continue to update U.S. citizens as information becomes available.

We recommend U.S. citizens check the Embassy’s COVID-19 page daily for information, and register or update their information in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
